At the age of just seventeen Allison Stokke experienced an athletic’s nightmare when a photo went viral for all of the wrong reasons.<\/strong>..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being an athlete involves a lot of hard work when being famous is on your mind and the best is the only way to be. Of course, having no negative press also helps a lot and your private life remains private. When it comes to athletics, the athlete is only concentrating on the work, dedication, and the sport itself. Regardless of the good things involved, the athlete will still have things come up that may cause a world to be flipped. When a good thing goes bad, the fame could be used against them just like Alison experienced at a young age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

School Athletics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It was during her high school years that Allison experienced pole vaulting and the amount of passion she had for the sport. Throughout school others believed in her abilities and could easily envision her future success, including her going out for many tournaments and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her goals included many that were record-setting. For these, she dreamt big to get her name known among her peers. It was in 2004 that she began to make her pole vaulting marks, which helped her achieve some feats. One of these feats included jumping 3.86 meters to earn a new record. This was achieved at the young age of just 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allison\u00b4s 2004 debut was a great start that promised a nice future and career in sports. When you work hard as an athlete, your whole life changes in order to achieve a goal such as a track meet. Once the meet is accomplished, the hard work and training begins all over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High Amount of Anticipation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With a great amount of success at a young age, Stokke was able to live up to the anticipation that many had hoped to see at an older age. As her first year came to an end, she was able to clinch a state championship. The good thing is that she would be going on to achieve more athletic victories. She easily exceeded what others expected and anticipated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a previous record achieved, Allison knew that she could go higher and that is what she did. By breaking her old record with a 4.11-meter jump. With this new record, the school managed to become recognized for a second time. Not only that, but she managed to jump successfully at only 16 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As she continued to achieve more and more athletic success, a drastic athletic change was in store for Allison. This brought on self-doubt about remaining safe as she made vaults. She then quickly understood the importance of the tools involved so that any accident can be eliminated. However, an injury can not always be avoided no matter how hard you try. It was while a practice session that she thought a new pole would suit her well but did not realize the dangers involved. As she reached the vault, her angle was not achieved thus sending her back towards the vault\u00b4s starting point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this miscalculation, she sustained a broken shim that required surgery and a possible end to her career. After surgery, vaulting was not at all possible for the remaining season. This also ended any chance of achieving another championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dreaded Vaulting Photo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to sports, the media will always have a major role to play. Besides influencing the way athletes achieve success, the media can also twist things around and cause an athlete to obtain a negative image. This is exactly what happened when a photo of the young athlete was made to represent sex at such a young age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This misconstrued image occurred thanks to a sports blogger by the name of Matt Ufford who decided to use the photo for his own personal gain. By adding a sexual nature to the photo, it was able to become viral within a matter of days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of the amount of popularity the photo had, together with the huge amount of sexual comments, there was a lot to worry about. Besides Allison, another worried individual was the original photographer of the photo. In order to try to eliminate the shame caused by the photo, a lawsuit was threatened if the photo remained. Despite the efforts made, the amount of viewership was overwhelming to say the least.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, all legal action that was attempted had failed and the only thing that was seen as unjust was the feeling of humiliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
